Lots of snow in West Michigan this weekend. LOTS of snow. And cold…1 and 2 and 0 degrees predicted for the next few days, with windchills of 17 below.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I was dumb enough to go out in it. I had a rather urgent errand to do with the bank and didn’t want to wait until Monday or later, and besides, at 9 am, it really didn’t look too bad. But, it was. So after completing my banking, I hung out with Suzanne for awhile and we watched Lost episodes on DVD. I had never seen Lost before. I’m not entirely enthralled with it yet and I don’t have the time to become a regular viewer, but it’s fairly entertaining, overall.
Around 3, Dad called and gave me permission to come home. The drive home was pretty interesting in spots, but I made it back to The Homestead without incident…and then the Beetle got stuck halfway up our driveway.
Dad pulled it out, but then, in my second attempt to blast through the 2-3 foot snowdrift, I stuck it again. Eventually though, we got the car up to the house. However, now I’m worried that I won’t be able to leave again until spring!
Word on the street is that the vaguely person-shaped figure in this photo is me. I gotta say, spending a year in the country and horse ownership especially has really done a number on my fashion sense. This particular get-up is a more conservative variant of what my mom calls my Bag Lady Outfit, which I don when I go to the barn each evening. it consists of my smelly, horsehair-covered gray jacket, my brother’s black snowpants, whoever’s boots are handy and dry, and whatever pieces of warm clothing I happen to find that evening: scarves tied around my head and topped off with a baseball cap, mismatched gloves, and often, my bathrobe trailing out the back for extra Bag Lady Style Points. Now, a year ago I would not have been caught dead in public without makeup, much less would I have dressed up like a Bag Lady. But these days, both are normal. And get this–on Thursdays, I go to Greek class in my tennis shoes and workout wear. Because wellness-class and Greek class are back-to-back, and I don’t have time to change, I’m always late as it is. Travesty! How things have changed! (Whether this new state of affairs is better or worse, I cannot say.) Who knows what I’ll do next–maybe go to the grocery store in my PJs!
This is a snowdrift in our backyard. There are drifts around The Homestead that are waist-high, and today when he was out in the Suburban, Dad drove through drifts that were over the hood and taller than the truck itself. I tell ya, it’s pretty surreal.
I’m hopeful but not optimistic that the roads will be clear by the time I need to get to school on Monday. If it keeps snowing tomorrow like it has today and is right now, there will be no way.

And I thought we had snow. Good luck and make a snow angel for me while you are out there.

Bag lady huh? Wait till you have a baby. I didn’t wear real clothes for almost three months… except on Sundays of course.
