Here we go again.

Whether I like it or not, I’m back at school.

I hit the ground running today. taught Jennie’s violin lesson at 8 (yes, I mean AM), then headed out to GV for class: first Philosophy, then Roman Law, then Latin(Aeneid-style), then Latin(Prose-Comp-style). After chatting with the Classics kidz for a few minutes, I headed out to the east side of town to teach Maddie, Gabby, and Connor. Now I’m home, waiting for Olivia, and then it’s Brenna’s turn. This is a normal Monday.

Philosophy is going to be interesting and easy-peasy–we’re studying Plato’s Republic the entire semester! Roman Law will be challenging but manageable. I’m not too concerned about the Aeneid, but I’m still not exactly sure what’s going on in Prose Comp. Is anybody else? Oh well, I’m reasonably certain I’ll figure it out soon enough.

I’m kind of nervous about my phys ed course tomorrow. Excitingly titled, “Conditioning Strategies, Body Mechanics, and Dynamics”, PED 206 is supposedly going to make me a better athlete by means of conditioning & flexibility training as well as education in good nutrition. It could either be really beneficial and enjoyable, or it could be a real drag. I suppose I’ll find out soon enough. Mostly I’m nervous because I haven’t set foot in the fieldhouse since the campus tour during the Honors scholarship competition. Astonishingly, that was 4 years ago, when I was a senior in high school. I won’t know what to do or where to go. Also tomorrow, I have Greek class. Hopefully that one won’t be too hard, but I’ve never been too fond of poetry, which is what we’re studying this semester.

I’ve come up with some resolutions for the new semester in hopes of making it a successful, enjoyable, less stressful one. Here they are:

1. All Projects and/or Papers must be started on time and completed at least 24 hours before the due date. Yes, I made it through this past semester doing everything by the seat of my pants and finishing things 1/2 hour before they were due, but I think I took a couple of years off my life with all that last-minute worry and fury.
2. Sleep, while nice, is irrelevant. That being said, I hope I can get at least 6 hours a night.
3. Food, however, is not. Neither is exercise. I hope to keep in mind the importance of healthy eating and act accordingly, as well as take my vitamins, so I can grow up to be a big strong girl someday. Also, I really ought to start running again.
4. I will get all A’s, even where Dr. Anderson is concerned.
5. But even if I don’t, I won’t have a hairy canary over it. There’s always next semester, and life is bigger than grades. Especially mine at this point.
6. Study with friends more often. It’s fun, and it helps.
7. I’m swearing off any and all forms of instant messenger for the duration of the semester. Even while I’m working. It’s a time sucker, and the last time I had a truly productive and enjoyable conversation on it was several months ago. I apologize if you’re accustomed to communicating with me this way, but I’m sure there’s other means. Phone, e-mail, facebook, this blog, and, oh yeah, face-to-face contact come to mind.
8. No oversleeping. In fact, I want to get up on time every morning so I can start wearing makeup again, and eat breakfast someplace other than the car.
9. Stay balanced. I mean, for real this time. 17 credits notwithstanding.
10. Remember why I’m here.

In preperation for the semester, I made a visit to Meijers for some school essentials, like a jumbo bag of M&Ms and a Zebra F-301 Ultra pen. Zebra F-301s are my favorite pen by a long shot, and can rarely be pursuaded to write with anything else. Also, I needed cat food, but Meijer didn’t have the formula my cat needs. They have all kinds of varieties like “For Multiple Cat Households”, “For Indoor Cats: With enhanced roughage for hairball control”, and “Urinary Health”. But the variety I need is “For Sensitive Stomachs: keeps your cat from throwing up half-digested food on a daily basis in the hallway where Dad can step on it”. I decided that since we’ve tried everything else, this time we’re going with canned food as a last-ditch no-puke effort.

Anyway.

{have your say}

But Brittany Aim is only about the only computer thing i understand. I guess i will have to write letters

  2. from Suzanne:

As sleep is connected to physical and mental health, despite college bravado, I would recommend trying to get more than 6 hours a night. Especially if you don’t have the luxury of nap times.

I’d have to agree with Suzanne, particularly if grades aren’t your ultimate and primary goal this semester. I’ve decided that B’s are a part of a balanced diet! A’s usually entail (sp?) quick food and short nights. However, I can say from experience that fruits and veggies are a decent sleep substitute. Don’t do bad food and bad sleep. Pick one or the other if you have to. But there is something very rewarding about killing yourself for one semester and nailing all your classes even if it means 4 hours a night max for months on end and a stop by Wendy’s on the way home so you can eat and drive at the same time, saving precious time. I don’t plan to do it for two semesters in a row. adr

I’m glad to hear you seem to have adopted a more moderate approach to your schooling, my friend. But I don’t think I can believe it until I see it!

  5. from Kryna:

That must be a very special cat!

  6. from dad:

that cat pukes one more time and it can live in the barn. i can get you up on my way to work beside you only need 4 hours of sleep I have been doing it for years.
