my friend, the slug.

This is a Great Grey Slug, also known as a Leopard Slug. I found him while cleaning up a pile of building materials next to the barn, and we were bffs for about 10 minutes before I set him free again.

Is he neato or what? Fully extended, he was about 5″ long. He left nasty slime trails all over my hand and arm.

Feelers! His adorable feelers were as long as my thumbnail.

Slugs are hermaphrodites. I learned that on Wikipedia, which also has a really great picture of two Leopard slugs mating. (you know you want to click the link. it’s an awesome picture.)

seriously, I could sit here and post slug pictures all day.
But I won’t, because I have work to do. I know that makes you very, very sad, but that’s the way life is sometimes.

{have your say}

    I concur that he was, indeed, one of the most friendly molluscs whom I have met. Also, he is apparently capable of both associative learning and classical conditioning! Hopefully during our meeting, he was conditioned to stay away from the hosta :) Thanks for introducing us!

  2. from trudy:

    He is quite beautiful with his spots and stripes. What a strange creature.

  3. from loretta:

    not gonna lie, that’s kind of gross, haha.
