Some girlfriends and i have developed a habit of getting together as often as possible for the purpose of consuming massive amounts of really good food and booze. this past week we had mexican food night. it was insanely great. so I took a lot of food pictures.

homemade salsa. and sangria.

This is my homemade salsa. with some chips. and stephenie’s sangria. the sangria was pretty amazing.

grillin!

Stephenie and Emily, puttin food on the grill. specifically: tequila lime chicken, corn on the cob, and pineapple.

hello, gorgeous.

Here’s Julie, lookin all gorgeous as she sips her sangria and contemplates something very deep that stephenie was saying.

tequila lime chicken

here’s the chicken. If it looks amazing, that’s probably because it was.

hello, deliciousness.

quinoa. and chicken. and grilled corn on the cob. and chips. and grilled pineapple. I was skeptical about the merits of grilling pineapple. then i tasted it. and it was even better than plain raw pineapple.

margaritas!

So after dinner Emily got out her Vitamix blender and made margaritas. I gotta say, having a friend with a professional quality blender is pretty great. These margaritas were even better than an Applebees or Friday’s margarita.

fried ice cream!!

THIS.

This is fried ice cream. Stephenie made it. It was incredible.
Absolutely. incredible.

julie is enthusiastic.

that’s why Julie is so enthusiastic.

:)

Hello, lovely.

almost gone

my friend, the slug.

This is a Great Grey Slug, also known as a Leopard Slug. I found him while cleaning up a pile of building materials next to the barn, and we were bffs for about 10 minutes before I set him free again.

slug II

Is he neato or what? Fully extended, he was about 5″ long. He left nasty slime trails all over my hand and arm.

slug III

Feelers! His adorable feelers were as long as my thumbnail.

Slugs are hermaphrodites. I learned that on Wikipedia, which also has a really great picture of two Leopard slugs mating. (you know you want to click the link. it’s an awesome picture.)

slug IV

seriously, I could sit here and post slug pictures all day.
But I won’t, because I have work to do. I know that makes you very, very sad, but that’s the way life is sometimes.

and I’ve seen love make heaven ring

and I've seen love make heaven ring

life is perplexing because this week
i was working, loving, gardening, playing music for the kids at vacation bible school, going to the beach, eating the best chocolate pudding of my life at marie catrib’s,
while my friend was across the state burying her father and singing at his funeral–beautifully I would add.

and i don’t have an answer for that.

{i’m not asking for one. i’m just marveling at how beauty and sadness both exist, and sometimes sadness is beautiful, and we just keep going on because it’s all we can do.}

just a picture of a tree.

I think we’re made to give ourselves away Cause there’s no other way to live

freedom is
A naked heart that always dares to give
A willingness to let the tenderness
Be taken as it may
